We look forward to an enriching school year!

Dear Parents,
We would like to take this opportunity to welcome
you and your child to the John V. Leigh School Junior High Behavior
Intervention Program. It is our belief
that no matter what goals we set, if we work together as a team, we can
successfully achieve them. The use of
classroom management (Level System) has created an environment where the
expectations are very high, both behaviorally and academically. Our goal is to provide your child with the
best possible education so that he/she will be able to return to the regular
education classroom as soon as possible.
The classroom management program is broken
down into four levels; the first level is very restrictive with the student
spending 85% of the day in one classroom, and the last level being the least
restrictive with the student spending 90% of the day mainstreaming to regular
education classes.
The program is based on the completion of work
and the student’s ability to demonstrate responsible behaviors. The day is broken down into ten periods
(academics, recess/lunch and homeroom.)
Five to six academic subjects will be given each day and it is the
student’s responsibility to complete assigned work from each subject. For each period the students can earn ten
points (for a total of 100 points each day.)
The students are rated for each of the periods, on their behavior and
academic performance. If they choose to
work, follow the rules and demonstrate responsible behavior, then they will
have a successful day and earn all their points. If they do not complete the work during the
time assigned then they must take these assignments home for homework. If homework is not completed from the
previous day then it is to be completed before he/she begins that day’s work.
Attached you will find a copy of the Level
System, as it is explained to your child.
We cannot stress enough that this program has been set up in order to
aid your child in learning to take responsibility for his/her own
behavior. With the support of both myself,
and you, the parent, we can work together to encourage your child to make the
right decisions, to become a responsible and successful individual.
Please feel free to contact us at any time
(708) 456-8848 (Room 115). We are
looking forward to working with your child and anxiously await a successful
school year.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Susan
