The Garfield Park Conservatory has hosted exhibits of art (Dale Chihuly etc.) in a tropical setting- a great break from the winter blues.

Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs always has something fun to do.

Be creative with your trip! I have taken extra credit for plays, gallery exhibits, and even the Chicago Auto Show (talk to an industrial designer about concept cars & the design process, though, not just about the MPG !)
