Mr. Gapastione’s

7th Grade Health

Course Outline/Structure: We will be having our health classes in the designated classroom area on a daily basis for the third quarter.  There will be an occasional Physical Education class, but I will notify the students in advance so that they can prepare for it.  Please be aware that student attendance and preparation is vital for successful completion of this course.

Curriculum Information:  There are 29 chapters in the textbook, but we will not have the opportunity to cover them all.  Due to the fact that Health is only a third quarter course, we will be moving through the material rapidly.  Therefore, it is essential that students do not fall behind on the required reading or workbook assignments.  The topics that will be emphasized include early childhood and adolescence, stress, nutrition, fitness, personal care, first aid, and mental, physical, and social health.

Daily Checklist: Students are expected to be prepared for each class with a

-         Health textbook

-         Workbook

-         Health-ONLY spiral notebook (vocabulary)

-         Pen or pencil

Grading Policy:   Students will be receiving a Health grade, and not a P.E. grade, for the 3rd grading period only.  The percentage breakdown will be…

          -   Chapter/Unit Test                 40%

          -   Quizzes                                20%

          -   Assignments                         20%

          -   Participation and Attitude      10%

          -   Vocabulary Notebook           10%

I look forward to an exciting, stimulating, and interactive 3rd quarter of Health.  This is an important aspect of student growth and understanding, and I hope this will be a successful class for each individual.  If there are any questions, comments, or concerns do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

Mr. Gapastione
